Project 3: Drawing & Painting Full Lenth Figure (W7)

After doing watercolour all week at home I decided to use them in the Life Drawing Class, the first one is a watercolour painting with a 0.8 tip drawing Pen, this was done on hot press paper. The seconded image I used a marker instead of the drawing pen and choose different colours then then general skin colour, I did do an underdrawing first with a pencil. The second one was taken with a camera and not scanne din.

Project 3: Full Lenth Figure (W6 @ Home)

As I didn't get chance to finish off the watercolour in the Life Drawing class I decided to practice at home with the watercolour paint and pencils as it isn't my favourite medium. I managed to get a tutorial dvd called Paining Figures in Watercolour by Ruth Block I would recommend getting a copy if you can it is available if you know where to look. Below are a few examples which I have produced this week:

The below are in one colour they are basically silhouettes but I've added a second coat for the shadow parts. These only took a couple of minutes to do I spent more time waiting for the paint to dry.

The below I've left some white spaces around the figure and also use 2 colours one for the clothes and one for sking. By leaving white spaces where two colours meet the colours wont wont run together. This is the first drawing Ive done with some clothes on the model, I might try a few more.

I then moved on to the watercolour pencils the first drawing I used the watercolour pencil first then added water on top then reaplied some pencil.

I made stronger mies on the watercolour paints by using less water I wanted the colours to be stronger, I also used ink applied with a brush for the contours. I need to use a smaller brush or work on the brush strokes as its all over the place. I might try this again but use ink instead of watercolour paint.

I have used a Drawing Pen aith the waterpaints, for a change the model is also wearing some garments. With a bit of practice I think I will be able to produce something reasonable from using this technique.

Project 3: Drawing & Painting Full Lenth Figure (W6)

I wanted to do watercolours this week in the Figure Drawing Lesson but unfortunately I never got that far, I had to sort something out for my daughter at college so I was in and out of the room a lot. I managed to get the drawing onto the watercolour paper so later this week I will use the watercolours with it. The drawing at the bottom was done in 15 mins as that’s what left at the end of the lesson and I didn’t want to start with the watercolour paints. I’ve used oil pastels for the contour and filled it in with soft pastels, I might try other stuff like this I like the vivid colours. The model had moved slightly in the bottom drawing as the belly button is in a different position.

Project 3: Full Lenth Figure (W5 @ Home)

This week I’m looking at watercolour, I really don't like watercolour never had done. Every time I use it I make mistakes and it’s very hard to cover up the mistakes once it is dry. Below is the pencil drawing and also the watercolour version:

The watercolour has ended up ok better then every other time I have used it. I’m not saying it’s perfect far from it but there’s an improvement since the last time I used them. I will be taken the watercolours into the Drawing Lesson at the end of the week and see how I get on with them. Its a bit of a mix media one as well as using watercolours Ive also used white Designers Gouache for the highlights.

Project 3: Full Lenth Figure (W4 @ Home)

I needed to do different approaches for this figure drawing brief and as I haven’t looked at painting yet I decided to give it a go. The below was done in Acrylics I didn't do any under drawing I just went for it with a paintbrush, it was a big mistake...  I made a lot of mistakes on this one which I tried to cover up with white acrylic, I also had another problem don't know if it was the paint I was using but if you have a look at the right leg the paper has been ruined. The paint peeled away like masking fluid which destroyed the paper, after that I gave up on the painting, I don't know why this happened but if anyone else knows why it ids please LMK. I will be using acrylics at the end of the week in the Life Drawing class.
