Work in Progress Time for a Quick Pint before Sunday Dinner
Another Acrylic painting on canvas board, the recent paintings seem to have taking me a couple of days from the initial idea to the finished painting which if you know me this isn't what I normally do. It could be that I'm working with acrylics rather then oils, I prefer Oils in everyway but I'm moving very soon and I don't want to move with wet paintings I had enough of that when I was at college. This painting and the "Bag-Wash" painting I have produced without using a ground, I normally use a ground for a couple of reasons however I wanted to try painting straight on the canvas. I have noticed due to the transparency of the paint its letting the white of the canvas board shine through making the end painting more vibrate and luminous in the way turner use it for lights in his skyscapes. Anyway the painting is an image out of my memory of my local pub which I spent a lot of time in during my youth when pubs use to be pubs, a place for socialising. The pub used to be called The Bowling Green in Denton, Manchester which is still there now and still open but with a different name and a different crowd.

Finshed " Sunday, Bag-wash Day"
Painting is now finished, didn't take long to finish this one. The medium is acrylic paint on canvas board at 40x50cm, the reason I'm using acrylic for a change is I'm moving house in a few weeks and anything painted in oils wont be dry in time for the move. The scene is a northern scene set in the late 60s at a guess, my mother always went to the Bag-Wash also known by many as The Laundrette. I think my mum enjoyed going to the Bag-Wash not because she enjoyed cleaning the clothes far from it but it was a place to gossip about other local people.

WIP "The Bag-Wash"
Work in Progress, "The Bag-Wash" is also known as the laundrette depending on which part on the UK you are from. Growing up in the 80s mother use to spend quite a bit of time here cleaning dirty clothes as most mothers did. However I also believe it was a place for socialising, spreading rumours and gossip between all the other mums. "Have you seen her over there from number 2 you never guess what I heard". This is another acrylic painting at 40x 50cm on canvas board.

WIP The Viaduct, Stockport
Work in Progress, I haven't done any paintings of Stockport Viaduct for a while so here's one I've just started. Due to the move I have decided to start using acrylic paints rather than oil paints I will return back to the oil paints when I have moved. I'm trying to loosen the brush strokes up, the painting is on canvas board at 24x18".

WIP "The Moving Day"
Work in Progress, hopefully I will be moving back to Manchester very shortly within the next couple of weeks if all goes well. I decided to do a painting on this, it isn't finished nor will it be finished until I have moved as I don't want to do the move with wet paintings. The first image was an primary sketch on photoshop as I couldn't find a pencil anyway due to most of my materials have already been packed away. The painting has been produced with oil paints and measures 70x50cm

Finished, varnished and scanned: "Ashton Market 2"
Another one that's now been varnished and scanned, this one is Ashton Market, Ashton-Under-Lynne in Tameside. I took this image a few years ago whilst getting photographs of Ashton and Stockport for a painting project for college. Anyway the market has changed since then the council have knocked the market down and changed it so I have decided to paint a couple of Ashton Market the way it use to be. The painting shows the clock tower at Market Hall, the whole building caught fire a few years ago and it really went up it flames. This one is a small oil painting on canvas board its only 30x20cm so there isn't any fine detail.

WIP "Only at Blackpool"
After looking at the painting I have decided to changed a few of the Super hero's characters, two of them were the same in the photograph so I'm going to change one. One I think was supposed to be the Joker the one with the purple cape I didn't feel it so I added Spiderman and Robin now I'm waiting for it too dry a bit.

WIP "Only at Blackpool"
I have always liked Blackpool brings back childhood memories and also memories of my mum. This one was taken in Blackpool a few years ago, I haven't been for a few years will have to go back soon. I stated my drawing the photograph, painted with a turpsy wash of oil paints, later on I inserted the painting into Photoshop and decided to add a few more people. Once I was happy I then painted in the new characters, at the moment the painting is too wet to continue with once its dry I shall carry on.

Latest Oil Sketch
I decided to do a couple of small oil sketches that hopefully wont take long to do. I've been doing large paintings but some have taken me a while to finish due to either the size or waiting for the medium to dry so I need a change. I drew a small 8x6 inches townscape out on Oil paper a while back but never got round to painting it so I've started on that one. I'm at the stage where I've just added more snow but I'm going to wait for it too dry before scanning it and positing the results so below is not the finished piece. The painting is 6x8 inches on canvas paper and the medium is Oil Paints, the painting is of The Nelson Tavern in Stockport, Cheshire.

WIP Shirley Baker Photograph Kids on Lamp Swing - Day 4..
Day 4 another day on this bloody painting I've changed a few things since yesterday however you might not even notice. The foreground pavement has been redone I wasn't happy with the flags, shadows been added, sky and chimney smoke and a few other bits. What I really need to do is let it dry and start on the figures and leave the buildings and background alone, I might actually get the painting done then, see what happens tomorrow if its dry enough.
