Finished, varnished and scanned: "Ashton Market 2"
Another one that's now been varnished and scanned, this one is Ashton Market, Ashton-Under-Lynne in Tameside. I took this image a few years ago whilst getting photographs of Ashton and Stockport for a painting project for college. Anyway the market has changed since then the council have knocked the market down and changed it so I have decided to paint a couple of Ashton Market the way it use to be. The painting shows the clock tower at Market Hall, the whole building caught fire a few years ago and it really went up it flames. This one is a small oil painting on canvas board its only 30x20cm so there isn't any fine detail.

I spent at lot of time at Blackpool on days out in my youth and more recently with my own kids and family. However haven't been for a couple of years but hopefully will go again soon. This on is an oil painting on canvas at 40x30 cm.

Work In Progress: Ashton under Lyne, Tameside
This is another small 20x30 cm oil painting of Ashton Under Lyne market, I have painted the market on numerous occasions and keep referring back to old photographs a took. Unfortunately the outdoor market has been redesign and doesn't look this way anymore, this painting took longer to do then the last small painting. I think its because I did an underpainting first where with the Pensarn Beach panting of same proportions I just applied the final top layer. I wont have time to finished today nor maybe this week but hopefully Ill complete it at the weekend, the painting so far.

WIP Pensarn Beach , Abergele, North Wales, UK
After doing the small 8x6 "The Nelson in Snow, Stockport" I wanted to buy some smaller canvases hopefully by doing some smaller paintings I will one be able to produce them quicker and get more brush mileage and most of all I would be able too loosen up and have more of a painterly approach. I'm spending way too long slaving over the larger paintings I feel I'm not producing hardly any work since I left college last year. This picture was taken a few weeks back on my local beach which is only about 5 minutes walk away. This is a Oil painting done in one sitting and is on a 20x30cm canvas board. Once the painting is dry I will varnish it and get a better photo of the painting.

WIP "Only at Blackpool"
After looking at the painting I have decided to changed a few of the Super hero's characters, two of them were the same in the photograph so I'm going to change one. One I think was supposed to be the Joker the one with the purple cape I didn't feel it so I added Spiderman and Robin now I'm waiting for it too dry a bit.

WIP "Only at Blackpool"
I have always liked Blackpool brings back childhood memories and also memories of my mum. This one was taken in Blackpool a few years ago, I haven't been for a few years will have to go back soon. I stated my drawing the photograph, painted with a turpsy wash of oil paints, later on I inserted the painting into Photoshop and decided to add a few more people. Once I was happy I then painted in the new characters, at the moment the painting is too wet to continue with once its dry I shall carry on.

Latest Oil Sketch
I decided to do a couple of small oil sketches that hopefully wont take long to do. I've been doing large paintings but some have taken me a while to finish due to either the size or waiting for the medium to dry so I need a change. I drew a small 8x6 inches townscape out on Oil paper a while back but never got round to painting it so I've started on that one. I'm at the stage where I've just added more snow but I'm going to wait for it too dry before scanning it and positing the results so below is not the finished piece. The painting is 6x8 inches on canvas paper and the medium is Oil Paints, the painting is of The Nelson Tavern in Stockport, Cheshire.

Another one finished.
Another painting finished off, I’ll get a better photograph of it in a few days once it’s dry and varnished. This one’s called "Capturing the Artist at work" Oil on Oil Paper around 20x16" the image is of fellow artist Rob Pointon who was painting in Manchester Piccadilly Train Station last year.

Not painted for a while...
I haven't got much painting done recently just haven't been in a good place and painting isn't at the top of my list for things to do. Anyway I've decided to get the paint brushes out one more time and try and at least get some of this unfinished work completed. The last one I posted way back in February I did a bit of work on it today I would say I'm around 85% completed so hopefully it be finished shortly. The photograph was taken last year in Manchester, the painting is oil on Oil paper and is around 20x16".

Painting of a painter painting in Piccadilly Train Station.
Work in Progress, last month I was in Manchester and was lucky enough to see this artist painting at Piccadilly Train Station so I quickly took a photograph. Apparently he was there for a few days painting, later that day I was told the artist was Rob Pointon you might want to look him up and check out his work..

WIP Shirley Baker Photograph Kids on Lamp Swing - Day 4..
Day 4 another day on this bloody painting I've changed a few things since yesterday however you might not even notice. The foreground pavement has been redone I wasn't happy with the flags, shadows been added, sky and chimney smoke and a few other bits. What I really need to do is let it dry and start on the figures and leave the buildings and background alone, I might actually get the painting done then, see what happens tomorrow if its dry enough.

WIP Shirley Baker Photograph Kids on Lamp Swing - Day 1.
I came across this photography by Shirley Baker from the 1960's I really liked the image and wanted to do it as a quick study. However I didn't manage to complete the painting due to over commitments of the day and I did take a little longer doing it. However that's all right as I enjoyed doing it, as long as I can complete the image tomorrow then I'm fine with it.
